Women Who Wear Black Lead Colourful Lives

Nothing annoys me quite as much as when people say "ooh but it's black.. isn't that a bit boring?". To me, black is harmonic, it's understated and it's sophistication in the highest. It doesn't scream, it doesn't fuss and it does what it's told (that and it's the simplest thing to style i.e. 15 more minutes in bed that morning, thank you very much).

There comes a time when social norms push us to stop wearing the 'dullities' of A\W and conform to summertime sunshine wearing pastels and dresses and all things girly. Well, we say no. We like black. What do you expect.. we're bloggers! We may submit for the odd garden party and wear a coloured frock *gasps and crosses fingers* but for the most part, we're going to make it work with our old faithful. Here are some of the best examples of styling black in summer that we can remember.

A Helping Hand For The Easter Holiday

Okay, so we know these ladies aren't technically wearing pastels, but what they are rocking are some seriously wonderful looks for this time of year. Tip: personify the sugared almond look, but inside of round edges, think neatly cut lines and a sharp silhouette (colour is a big deal to us.. one step at a time). Take particular note of the olive green colour contrasted with the pink backdrop, play around with it, have fun and Happy Easter!

The Perfect Spring Statement: Kaleidoscope

Statement enough to turn heads, modest enough to keep the class. How perfect is this look spotted outside the Issey Miyake Paris Fashion Week show? The subtelty in colour seems so enchanting, we were sat in the office staring at it for quite some time just taking it all in. 'Statement' is a word I hate when referring to fashions, as I feel it doesn't give the individual the credit they deserve for even wearing such a style - it's all about that piece of clothing. After all, fashion is the clothing, style is what you do with it. But in this instance, it just works. We salute you!

For the Queen of Kaeidoscopics, look to Mary Katrantzou for inspiration.

How To Wear Floral, Without Wearing Floral.

Now that spring has well and truly sprung, we've been discussing florals together at CofD lately, and how we're not so sure about it. There are two ways it can go: either the beautifully sculpted and feminine Dior way, or the Grandma's curtains kind of way. Then it hit us: how could we wear florals, without wearing florals?! The answer, beautiful people, is simple - layer vibrant colours with a subtle graphical print and the human eye does the rest for you. We don't know who this girl is but my god, she's got it right.

Is the tartan trend dead?

Thanks to Stella and Phoebe tartan had a real revival last season, but is the hype still alive? Can we still wear tartan or are we commiting a fashion sin if we do? This photoserie from A-list fashion blogger Gary Pepper a.k.a. Nicole Warne proofs we can. Make sure you choose pastels for a great Spring look.
